Do you have a website or a blog? Do you use targeted keywords on your pages or in your posts?

A keyword is a word or phrase that captures the essence of a topic and is what allows Google and other search engines the ability to look for relevant information to display in their results. Google, which has 71% of searches on the web, looks for relevant content to display to end-users plumber Kingwood, TX. Google wants to make sure that all the results that are displayed are the best possible match to what a user wants so that they will continue to use Google for their searches, which in turn drives advertising revenue.

So what does this mean for you? If you don’t have relevant keywords on your website or blog, then the search engines are not going to display your information in the results that you want to be displayed in.

For example, let’s say that you are a plumber that specializes in working with only new dentists in Calgary. If your website only lists that you are a Plumber in Calgary, then you are one of hundreds or thousands of plumbers in Calgary. If your website content lists that you are a plumber in Calgary that works exclusively with new dentists in Calgary, then the search engines have a way to find you and what you specifically do.

If someone types in “Plumber for new dentist Calgary” in the search box, you will probably show up near the top of the results since your website has this information on it. In addition, if someone looks up “Plumber for dentist Calgary”, same thing will apply since you are probably one of a few plumbers that have the right keywords to put your website or blog in the top results.

With a blog post, the same rule applies. What you want to do is make sure that your post has relevant keywords in it so that it is searchable. If you are writing a post on, say, a hippo at the zoo, if you don’t even mention a hippo or zoo, then chances are your post won’t show up in any results. Make sure that you put the right information in your post that allows the search engines the ability to understand what you are trying to get across.

What you can do is look at your website or each post you make on your blog and ask yourself, “What am I trying to get across with this information and who am I targeting?” If you do this and then see if your website actually has this information on it, then you are ahead of others online. You would be surprised how little changes can increase your search page rankings. There are numerous keyword tools that you can find online. Find certain keywords or use keywords that you want to use and make sure that they are listed on your post or on your website.

The more specific you can be the better off your results will be, but don’t write a website or blog post specifically stuffing keywords in needlessly. This may actually hurt you. Bottom line, put the relevant information in websites and blog posts, but don’t over do it.
